Because the surrounding Chugach mountains receive between 600-900 inches of fresh powder each year, helicopter, snowcat skiing and snowboarding is reputed to be the best in the world
The waters near Valdez are home to sea otters, Dall porpoise, harbor seals, Stellar sea lions, Humpback and Orca whales. On the surrounding cliffs mountain goats, black and brown bears contribute to making the area a photographers dream
